Dietz Vesta navy standard antique deck lantern; circa early 1900’s. Very nice piece of hard to find history. Small dents and wear to finish commensurate with age of the lantern. Older solder repairs (see pictures) that are common with these lanterns. Lantern globe is intact with no cracks.
Navy Deck Lantern by Dietz; dated Sept. (19)08; marked Dietz Vesta, New York. Robert (R.E.) Dietz began selling whale oil and lanterns in 1840. He and his brother patented the first practical flat wick burner in 1859. The R.E. Dietz Company manufactured hundreds of lantern models and pioneered the automotive lighting industry. A signature is required upon delivery.
